When blood glucose is tooo high, receptors causes the beta cells in the islet of langerhans of the pancreas to secrete the hormone insulin. Insulin causes a decrease in blood glucose level by causing it to be taking in more by cells, formation of glycogen in the liver, etc.

When the blood glucose level is too low, receptors causes the alpha cells in the inslet of langerhans of the pancreas to secrete the hormone glucagon. Glucagon causes more glucose to be released into the blood mainly by gluconeogenesis (making new glucose).

They both are feedback mechanisms and work together to maintain the homeostatic norm that is blood glucose level.
