how long hiv viruslive in a surgical instrument that kept in open air or cup board?

this is a very strange question and rather suspicious.
Surgical instruments should be kept in hospitals and used only for valid medical procedures. They should be sterilized and stored in a clean area and not in open air cupboards. I would not be concerned with HIV as muuch as I would be about other infections that can be caused by improper sterilization and storage techniques.
