What's a good kind of fitted earplugs for a trombone player?
I play a lot of music and sometimes worry about damaging my hearing. The problem is, when I use the disposable foam ones, I get a muffled sound of my own instrument echoing in my head. Is there a kind of custom fit earplug that can block out sound without producing this effect?
I know exactly what you mean. I went to an audiologist, where I was fitted for custom plugs. He used a special putty compound to make molds of my ears, then sent them to the earplug company to be made. A few weeks later they came back and of course fit perfectly. They even have different strength filters, depending how much sound you want reduced.
If you're serious about fitted plugs, go to an audiologist.
